Christina Seewald
Born in Graz, Austria, knitwear designer Christina Seewald first got her start in London, graduating from Central Saint Martins before presenting at London Fashion Week in 2019. Often drawing influence from a diverse range of academic theory & artistic practices, Seewald’s work reflects a rare, raw brand of inter-disciplinarity. Concepts & forms of thought pulled from sources such as feminist film-theory & modern dance, all inform the final garment. But despite this heady pedigree, the clothing nevertheless projects a sense of the personal & the intimate. Seewald’s subversively feminine output revitalizes little-known traditional knitwear techniques to create clothing that is both forceful & fragile. Rendered in bold ribbed cashmere blends & semi-sheer jersey, overlong-sleeved dresses, deconstructed sweaters, & turtleneck pullovers pieced together in asymmetric patchworks express a subtle power. With sharp attention to detail & a commitment to conscious material sourcing, Christina Seewald extends an invitation to consider new shapes & perspectives, both conceptually & tangibly, without compromising on quality.
