Born in Antwerp, and a 2003 graduate of Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Van-Essche shares a deep connection to traditional and ethno-cultural craftsmanship, traveling to remote villages across the world to study dying craftsmans' techniques.  Van-Essche removes all cultural detail and excess seams to construct gentle and relaxed fits from full weft swaths of fabric. In 2013 Van-Essche began an annual complimentary “project” series to his collections, exploring thematic additions from patchwork to rope weaving.
