For the SS21 Homme Plus menswear collection, Tokyo’s reigning high priestess nay alchemist Rei Kawakubo is going metal... submerging her refined menswear silhouettes into industrial vats of reflective elements in a defiant act of metallurgy.

But Rei isn’t pushing a serious and weighty Richard Serra-esque meditation on ore at all. This metal is weightless, owing more to NASA’s innovative mylar space blankets and mercury program space suits than anything else.  

The result is something of a retro-future, but one lacking in corny pastiche and sci-fi longing. Perfect for upcoming endurance missions on dance floors under shifting light conditions and strong enough to pull you into the next dawn. “It is my wish that the strength of metal, the strength that wouldn’t yield to any pressure or force, and the strength that will give birth to hope to overcome the various hardships we face, will all overlap in this collection.” -Rei Kawakubo
